What It Means To Be Saved
Every one of us faces challenges in life. The problems of life do not know social, economic, racial, or gender boundaries. We do not need to look far to see that no one’s life is perfect and every family has its troubles.
Jesus Christ said “My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.” Other translations of the Bible tell us that Jesus came to give us “abundant life.” (John 10:10)
How can we live “life in all its fullness,” and is it possible to have the “abundant life” that Jesus spoke of?
The answer is, Yes!
The Bible tells us that “overwhelming victory” can be “ours through Christ, who loved us.” (Romans 8:37) It is evident though, that “overwhelming victory” is not automatic because not everyone experiences it.
The first step in experiencing a victorious, abundant life is to receive the salvation that God provided for us.
What is Salvation?
The Bible tells us that salvation is a free “gift from God” and that we cannot earn it. We can only receive this gift by believing. It says . . .
“God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” Ephesians 2:8-9
Most religions teach (and most people believe) that we must earn Heaven by our good works. The Bible doesn’t teach this. The Bible says that “as many as received Him,” speaking of Jesus, “to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” John 1:12 NKJV
You might ask . . .
Do I really need to be saved?
Many people believe that because they are a “good person,” or at least “good enough,” and better than many others, that God will accept them into Heaven when they die. Who defines “good enough”? Here is what the Bible says about every person:
Romans 3:23, For all have sinned; all fall short of God's glorious standard.
Romans 3:10, As the Scriptures say, "No one is good, not even one.”
Romans 6:23, For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Every human being needs a Savior, and that Savior is Jesus Christ!
Does it really matter that I believe in Jesus? Isn’t believing in “God” good enough?
The Bible says about Jesus, “There is salvation in no one else! There is no other name in all of heaven for people to call on to save them.” Acts 4:12
Jesus died on the cross for our sins. He paid the full penalty for our sin so that we would not have to. He did this because of LOVE. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."
How can I be sure that I am ready to receive Jesus Christ as my Lord?
The Bible says, “For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.” Romans 10:9-10
Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He died for your sins, and rose from the dead to give you eternal life?
If your answer to that question is “YES,” then you are ready to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. You may do so by praying this simple prayer from your heart:
Dear God,
I believe that Jesus Christ is your Son, that He died for my sins on the cross and that He rose from the dead to give me eternal life. I receive You Jesus, as my Savior and Lord right now. I declare that I am a new person. I am a child of God. Thank you Father God for saving me. I will live for you all the days of my life. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Congratulations! You are now a brand new child of God. God has washed away all your sins, and regarding sin, you have no past. The Bible says “What this means is that those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
The next step!
Just like a newborn baby needs food in order to grow, you need spiritual food in order to grow as a Christian. Our spiritual food is the Bible. We encourage you to “feed” upon God’s Word daily so that you can become strong in the Lord as the Scripture says in 1 Peter 2:2, “as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.” NKJV
If you don’t have a Bible, then please email us and let us know. We will send you one free of charge. Email us at pc@todayschurchct.org.
